Yannis Theodoridis, Professor |
Professor Yannis Theodoridis is faculty member with the Department of Informatics and Director of the Data Science Lab at the University of Piraeus.
Yannis serves or has served as vice-chair of the Computer Science sectorial scientific council of the National Council for Research, Technology and Innovation (2020-), member of the editorial board of ACM Computing Surveys (2016-19), member of the board of directors (2016-21) and life-long member (2010-) of the SSTD endowment, general co-chair for SSTD'03 and ECML/PKDD'11, co-organizer of the PaRMa@EDBT (2004-06) and BMDA@EDBT (2018-19-20-21) workshop series with EDBT/ICDT, PC vice-chair for IEEE ICDM'08, and PC member for numerous conferences, including SIGMOD, PODS, ICDE, KDD, and ICDM.
Since 2001, Yannis has participated under the role of project coordinator or scientific / technical manager in a number of EU-funded research projects, with Horizon 2020 projects Green.Dat.AI. (2023-25), EMERALDS (2023-25), MobiSpaces (2022-25), VesselAI (2021-23), and Track&Know (2018-20) being the most recent ones. His research interests include Data Science (big data management & analytics) for mobility data and edge applications. He has co-authored three monographs and more than 100 articles in refereed journals and conferences with over 13,000 citations according to Google Scholar.
Yannis holds a Dipl. Eng. (1990) and Ph.D. (1996) in Computer Engineering, both from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
